Floral sunglasses, anyone?

Posted by Sophie on Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

I just had the pleasure of seeing the flowers and trees really blooming as this week started off.  It’s amazing to witness the power of flower beauty.  I’ve been taking my laptop outside to work for a few days.  It’s hard to resist the spring panorama around me.  The wonderful weather makes me wanna put on these floral sunglasses.  The vivid pops of color get me in a cheerful mood.  I think they are fun to wear and a refreshing change from black or brown shades.   The retro shape is a must with floral prints.  If floral apparel is too much for you then maybe start with accessories and see what you think.

Floral heaven

Posted by Sophie on Sunday, March 21st, 2010

There was a time when I got squeamish on anything with floral prints.  I was traumatized by the horrendous sight of flower-printed bedsheets, rosy curtains, tacky table cloths, bathroom wallpaper that left a bad taste in my mouth, even a slight nausea.  So my dislike of floral really started mostly with home decor.  For the last couple years, I’ve slowly developed a soft side with floral fashion along with lace, ruffles, all that is girly and romantic!  Lately I have this extreme urge to put on a floral dress and chunky high heels… go out and play in the sun.  It must be the “spring in me” ready to burst.  I sound like a broken record player but the weather has been so incredibly gorgeous that it gives me even more reason to be a flower child.

Not all floral dresses are made equal.  Some dresses definitely give off that cheap prom-y vibe… how lame they are.  I adore short floral dresses especially in spring.  They are super chic when worn with tights and chunky heels. Vintage style dresses are fantastic.  Small, delicate floral prints seem to blend easier with the rest.  When chilly out, throw on a fringe scarf or a light cardigan.  Accessorize with a wide belt if you want to dress it up.  Or go boho with fringe boots and floppy hat.  Floral mini skirts are equally nice too.

Florals frocks are fun and not as difficult to wear as you might imagine.  Keep the florals just with the dress.  Don’t go estrogen overload from head to toe.  Accessories should be cool and neutral to balance out the feminine factor.  As usual, I incorporate floral with a bit of edginess.  The mesh hoodie is to-die-for.

Katy Perry – Oops I Did It Again

Posted by Sophie on Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Okay, what’s wrong here with Katy Perry.  She stepped out in some hideous floral pantsuit (that’s her bowling outfit!) back in April showing a great example of how-not-to-wear-flowers!  Yet, again, she repeated the same mistake recently with another ugly floral blazer!

She’s all smiles in this painfully gawky floral blazer from Top Shop (on the right).  The only thing that looks good on her are those adorable Melissa heels which are overshadowed by the ugly blazer!

Big Blossoms for Your Wardrobe

Posted by Sophie on Friday, March 27th, 2009

Big blossoms are not only for prom corsages.  Turn your old or cheap accessories into spring’s hottest trend for a fraction of the cost of buying new designer pieces.

Create your own designer look with these gorgeous fake blooms.  Put them on long pearl necklaces, shoes, and even on handbags for an instant romantic & feminine upgrade.  So perfect for the spring!

You can simply clip flower brooches.  These brooches are cheap and you can always take them off.  But it’s way more fun when it’s DIY!  Takes less than 30 minutes to create your own unique goodies/brooches.

I especially enjoy playing with cheap heels by turning them into fancy vintage-glam heels.  All you need is hot glue, beads/gems, some wire (I use for beads…), feathers, and of course, silk flowers (just cut the stems off)… they are like a dollar a piece from your local craft store.

Map out the design before you glue… and just go to town ladies!
