Targeted Ab Exercises

Posted by Sophie on Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Having strong abs has many health benefits beyond the aesthetic appeal of looking sexy.  You are less prone to injury, your core is strengthened and this helps your back, and it enables better posture, etc.  Finally, like all other workouts it really helps to reduce stress!

Did you know that there are actually 4 main muscle groups?  They are the transversus abdominus, rectus abdominus, internal oblique, and external oblique.  You definitely want to workout each of the muscle groups for maximum results.

Brett will share 3 abdominal exercises specifically targeting the four main ab muscles, plus one exercise to strengthen your lower back.  Last but not least, don’t forget to combine a regular workout with a healthy diet!  Soon, we can all have fab abs just like Dara Torres… well, maybe not soon, but someday!

Dara Torres – Age is Just a Number

Posted by Sophie on Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Did you root for her during her swim competition in the 2008 Beijing Olympics?  I certainly did!  Dara Torres is a 42 year old Olympian and a mom.  I honestly had not heard of her before the last Olympics and was shocked to find out that she was competing at age 41 at that time!

She is the epitome of saying – age is just a number.  You really can look & feel healthy and beautiful at any age.  In fact, Dara has a better body than most 20 year old women… look at those abs, arms… what a fab bod!

Age is just a number. I hope women will get that out of this book, that age is a misconception. I am older and stronger, physically and mentally.

I haven’t read her new book yet, Age is Just a Number: Achieve Your Dreams At Any Stage In Your Life and can’t wait to get a hold of it here soon.  In this book, Dara shares her journey on dedication, determination and finding balance in her life while pursuing her dreams.  Dara will motivate you to take care of yourself both mentally and physically and believe in yourself to achieve your dreams at any stage in your life.  I find that very inspiring!

Bananas – Energy Boosting Snack

Posted by Sophie on Saturday, January 10th, 2009

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.  As of recently… the start of new year… I’ve come to appreciate the power of healthy food, and how much benefit it provides.  And it starts with breakfast.

I used to just drink coffee and skip breakfast all together… a bad habit of mine!  Many of my friends & family do eat breakfast but all the bad stuff – biscuits, bacon, sausage, etc. (morning fast food!) which contains lots of sodium & saturated fat.

Now my typical breakfast menu items are a fruit/veggie smoothie (banana is a must!), two pieces of double fiber toast (no butter), and some nuts.  I eat a banana almost everyday… there is a reason why athletes live on this amazing fruit.   I also drink green tea instead of coffee.  I feel better mentally & physically with more energy all throughout the day.

I love eating in the morning now because my breakfast is sooooo delicious.  I learned that the best way to eat healthy food is to make it yummy so you’ll crave it each time… even the food that you didn’t use to like as much.

Here Lola Berry explores how to fight fatigue and boost your energy by choosing the right food.
