How to Choose Make-Up for Sensitive Skin

Most often, we try to achieve a glowing natural look when we apply make-up. We tend to avoid those cosmetics that come with red, itchy, and dry irritation. However, if one has a sensitive skin type, one may find it really hard to look for make-up that will best suit the skin. With that, the first thing to do before buying make-up is to know your skin type. Having knowledge regarding your skin would surely help you save time on availing of a product or make-up. According to dermatologists, it is necessary to know your skin type in order to determine what product will work best for you.

With that being said, people with sensitive skin need to be more cautious when it comes to picking a brand that they will use on their skin. Usually, people with this skin type should opt for products that contain aloe vera, oatmeal, or shea butter. Meanwhile, those that have dry skin should also have a moisturizer on their list to make their skin radiant. On the other hand, those that have oily skin types are somewhat luckier since their skin could handle a variety range of ingredients that could sometimes trigger irritation or acne-breakout. But that never guarantees that they are safe from excessive sebum production. Hence, oily skin types should still control oil production.

So, with the subtle warning above, how could you further choose a cosmetic product that is best suitable, especially for those that have a sensitive skin type?

Don’t fall into the popularity trap

If you are about to buy a product or make-up that is introduced by an influencer or by a friend, you must not only pay attention to how their skin looks like now. Instead, pay closer attention to what skin type they have to start out. By knowing this, you will have an indicator of whether the product will work for you. If one is not careful enough, you may face some consequences or adverse reactions on your skin. In fact, nowadays, several skin products have faced lawsuits from their customers who experienced an adverse reaction after using the product. The backlash on some of the skincare brands could set as a reminder for everyone that just because a product gets a popularity vote doesn’t mean that it is the right product for you.

Always check the ingredients

Checking out the ingredients is also one of the smart choices you could make before buying a cosmetic product. Some of the ingredients one should seek out are Vitamin C, Ceramides, hyaluronic acid, Glycerin, Vitamin E, Retinol, Vitamin B3, among many others. These ingredients are chemically proven to hydrate, simulates, as well as to protect the skin. Nevertheless, Parabens and sulfates are only some of the few things that you should avoid in a make-up product since they can cause an adverse reaction to the skin.

Check the order of the ingredients

After knowing what ingredients are good or bad for your skin, you must also pay attention to the order of ingredients that are presented in the product. As a good rule of thumb, the first five ingredients are the first ones that you should be paying attention to since they are often accounted for about 80% of the product. Most often, ingredients are arranged in order of highest to lowest concentration. So, if the ingredients you are seeking are not even on the first five lists, you might want to reconsider buying that product. Similarly, if the ingredients you are looking for are listed at the end, then that cosmetic or product is not worth your money.

Don’t forget to do a patch test

Patch testing saves your skin from a major skin breakout, so don’t ever neglect this part. Also, it is a smart practice to test your products first to determine whether they would cause an allergic or any reactions to your skin. Although patch testing literally takes time to offer results, it could save you a lot of money and grief in the end. So, take advantage of those testers products you see at the cosmetics shop. They are there for a wise reason.
