I want to introduce Nicole Song, HipGirlie’s new contributing editor! She has an immense interest in fashion (like me & you!) with her expertise being in bargain finds. I’m so excited to have her as part of our team! We look forward to Nicole sharing her valuable insight and viewpoints with us and all of you. And here’s her first piece!
One of the trends I’ve noticed from the Fall 2012 fashion shows was romantic western-inspired clothing. Designers created this wearable trend by taking on a new modern approach towards western wear to make it more refined and tailored. Band of Outsiders and Isabel Marant did a fantastic job on their RTW (ready to wear) collections.

This trend can easily be worn during this season as well and is casual enough for everyday wear. My favorite look is pairing a long-sleeved, cream button-up shirt tucked into a striped, A-line skirt with brown boots and turquoise jewelry.
Below are some affordable pieces on trend. You can find button-up shirts anywhere and should be a key basic item in any girl’s wardrobe. I got mine from a Salvation Army thrift store for two bucks. For striped skirts, I recommend Forever 21, they always have some in stock. And as for turquoise jewelry that will last, try going to upscale consignment or vintage stores. If you don’t like that look, try one from below!
Tan jeans $75 Oasis-stores.com, Striped Dress $58, Modcloth.com, Lace Top $62, Warehouse.co.uk, Camel Coat $288 Romwe.com, Steve Madden Fringe Boots $70 (sale!), Piperlime.gap.com, Black Ankle Boots $78, Nastygal.com
A cream lace top would look great with these Oasis camel jeans and is very practical. I included this Mod Cloth striped dress because it captures a vintage feeling and the colors work really well with camel, which will be everywhere this year. This Romwe coat is a major investment piece, but will be worn time after time again. And I included two fun pairs of ankle boots.
These black ones are at a cross between a motorcycle/cowboy look and seem fun to wear with skirts and jeans. The brown fringe boots will give any outfit a Western feel and dress-down anything too fancy worn with it. Incorporating this trend into your daily wardrobe will be simple!
