Hey you hip ladies out there, this is year 2008 – that means a new year and a new look! So, what are the hot trends in fashion for 2008? The shapes will be fitted, the colors will be citrus, but dresses and flats will hang around. This year there are plenty of new twists to old favorites. Here are eight trends to look for that might make you more stylish in the coming year.
1. FITTED SHAPES
Some designers have started moving away from the look to an overall more fitted shape, not just with tops, but with jeans, dresses and skirts as well. We can expect to see more fitted blazers and curve-hugging sheaths and shifts that show off our shapes like this pretty DANIELE ALESSANDRINI – Women – SHIRTS – Blouses on YOOX.COM $180.
2. A FRUITY COLOR PALETTE
Big color will take a big stage in fashion in 2008. Big as in tangerine, raspberry, neon yellow, kelly green and lime green. Look for the bold colors on anything from dresses to jewelry – even shoes. Take a look at this amazing Juicy Couture Berry/Grey Quilted Tote $225.
3. FAT NECKLACE, SKINNY HOOPS
Big & bold or sleek & understated for accessories trends in 2008. If you like the bold look, check out the oversized clutches and chunky jewelry L.K. Designs Crystal Stone Necklace $152, both part of a bigger trend where accessories are more in-your-face. But you can also opt to keep it clean and simple with a pair of gold or silver hoops.
Like the dress, the flat shoe – from ballet flats to sandals – will endure in 2008. Look for embellishment and color in shoes as never before with metallic balls, a funky seashell with a hint of color for patent leather in bright yellow Sam Edelman – Carmen (Yellow) – Women’s $98.95 or green.
5. THE DRESS
In 2008, the dress is expected to be strong yet again. And why not? The dress is an easy get-dressed-and-go option for most women and often cheaper than buying an entire outfit of separates. Among the most popular dressese are the geometric print dresses such as Milly Back Bow Party Dress $324.
6. TIERED WEDDING GOWN
If you think you might end up walking down the aisle in 2008, there’s a good chance you’ll end up in a tiered gown. That’s one of the biggest trends from wedding dress designers for this year. You can still pull off the trend with just a hint of tiering around the hem or at the back of the dress. It’s all part of a bigger trend in wedding gowns that are textured with pleates and ruffles for a more romantic look. The dress above is from Priscilla of Boston.
7. THE ‘POB’
Victoria Beckham’s asymmetrical bob has set off a trend. She brought back the look “Pob” (or Posh Bob) last year and Hollywood was quick to copy it. Why the appeal? It’s a classic cut but with a Beckhamesque chic that can be customized to work on most any woman’s face shape and hair texture.
8. SHOWING YOUR DARK SIDE
More women are leaving the blond highlights behind in favor of deeper, richer tones like actress Jessica Biel. For many, it’s just easier – and cheaper – than light hair. To pull off the Pob or any other style with a strong shape, darker colors work best.
