Get your apron out…
Making your own beauty treatments isn’t rocket science and doen’t require special equipment or tough-to-find ingredients. Many of the things you need can be found right in your kitchen or can easily be purchased. Being your own manufacturer allows you to control what goes into your products and is also a great way to spend an evening with friends. Look for treatment recipes with natural ingredients like avocado, honey, egg whites or oatmeal, which are great for maintaining soft, supple skin.
~INGREDIENTS STRAIGHT FROM THE KITCHEN~
Green Tea: Not only is this drink good for you, but it will also improve your skin’s appearance by reducing inflamation and fighting free radicals that cause skin damage. So pour yourself an extra big glass and drink up.
Lemon: To reduce the appearance of oily skin, cut a lemon into wedges (one extra for your water). Rub the lemon all over your face. Leave it for about 15 minutes, and then rinse with cold water.
Olive Oil: Not just for cooking anymore! Because olive oil is chemical free, it can be used directly on your skin: as bath oil, moisturizer, massager, and a conditioner.
Oatmeal: Who doesn’t love a facial? Grab a box of oatmeal from your cabinet and begin. Oatmeal exfoliates and moisturizes the skin. Directions: Take a package of instant oatmeal; add half a cup of water; two tablespoons yogurt; two tablespoons of honey and one egg white. Mix the water and oatmeal – then add the additional ingredients. Apply a thin layer to your face. Leave it for about 15 minutes or until you feel tightness; rinse your face with warm water. Great to eat for breakfast too!
So you’re not Betty Crocker…
If whipping up your own natural remedies doesn’t appeal to you, Yesi Cantillo of Sephora, at Crabtree Valley Mall, recommends trying boscia skincare from Japan or Caudalie products from France. Botanically based and preservative free, boscia skincare products offer a complete regimen for the body, including supplements for healthy living. It’s also manufactured and sealed in a bacteria-free, clean room. For daily hydration with sun protection, try Boscia Oil-free Daily Hydration SPF 15. Using benefits from the grape, Caudalie improves the skin’s appearance – moisturizing and returning the skin’s natural, healthy glow. To ensure your skin’s radiance all day, try Caudalie Night Infusion Cream before going to bed.
